“Artist and Revolutionary: Panos Terlemezian as an Ottoman Armenian Painter” by Gizem Tongo

Probably no painter in the late Ottoman Empire was at war with the ruling block more than the Ottoman Armenian artist Panos Terlemezian (1865-1941). Born in the Ottoman city of Van in 1865, Terlemezian became both an important political figure and a noted painter. He was exiled and imprisoned in the empire and abroad for his activities as an Armenian revolutionary against the absolutist regime of Sultan Abdulhamid II.
