Armenian students from Nanjing University introduced the culture and history of their homeland in Yunnan
A program called “Understanding China, Witnessing Revitalization – Overseas Students’ 2024 National Education Practice: Shuangbai Trip” was recently organized by the Overseas Education College of Nanjing University. This program aimed to provide international students with a comprehensive understanding of China’s history, culture, and rural revitalization efforts. From April 15th to 20th, the program welcomed a diverse group of participants, including Armenian students Anna Adamyan and Arevik Margaryan.
During the program, students had the opportunity to explore the history and culture of the Yi ethnic group, as well as experience the progress made by Nanjing University in assisting Shuangbai, Yunnan. Anna and Arevik also shared the culture and traditions of their own country with the local residents and students of Shuangbai. Arevik introduced the language, characteristics, cuisine, and historical sites of Armenia, while Anna showcased traditional garment styles from the 19th and 20th centuries, wearing the stylized version of Yerevan’s traditional gown, explaining the significance of the four colors commonly found in Armenian national costumes. The participants, including international students, local inhabitants, teachers, students, and organizers, expressed great interest in Armenian art, culture, history, and traditional garments. They asked questions, took pictures, and requested more details and sources for future intercultural connections between Armenia and China.
The program provided students with an immersive experience that allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of China’s history and culture, as well as its efforts to revitalize rural areas. The students’ participation in the program is a testament to the importance of international education and cross-cultural exchange in fostering global understanding and cooperation.
