Armenian Culture in the Spotlight: Nord Anglia School Guangzhou Celebrates Heritage at International Day of Charity
On December 20, 2025, Nord Anglia School Guangzhou, Panyu hosted its annual International Day of Charity, a dynamic event dedicated to celebrating global diversity while raising funds for local community causes. Each year, the festival showcases more than 20 countries, largely driven by the school’s international teaching staff. In the 2025 edition, Armenia was selected as one of the featured cultures—a presentation made especially meaningful through the dedicated efforts of Armenian educator Mane Khachibabyan, Primary School Subject Teacher and Social Impact Lead at the school.
Under her guidance, students and their families embarked on a months-long journey of discovery into Armenian heritage. Each homeroom class was assigned a country to research and represent through a cultural booth, with the Armenia stand emerging as a particularly vibrant and educational showcase. Central to its authenticity was the display and use of traditional Armenian taraz (national costume), which offered participants a tangible connection to Armenian culture.
The inclusion of genuine taraz was a notable highlight, given the extreme rarity of traditional Armenian clothing in China, even through digital marketplaces. The garments were provided by ChinArmArt, which maintains the only dedicated collection of Armenian traditional attire in China. This collaboration allowed students and visitors not only to view but also to wear the intricate costumes—an experience that deepened their engagement and understanding of Armenian cultural identity.
Mane Khachibabyan’s leadership ensured that the booth went beyond superficial representation, incorporating historical context, traditional crafts, and symbolic elements that reflected Armenia’s rich artistic legacy. Her role as both a teacher and cultural ambassador helped bridge geographical and cultural distances, making Armenian heritage accessible and memorable for the school community.
