Eurasia as a Global Nexus: Yerevan Hosts Landmark Conference on Modern China and Eurasian Dynamics
On December 5–6, 2025, Yerevan, Armenia, served as the intellectual stage for the VI International Conference “Eurasian Research on Modern China and Eurasia.” Organized by the Armenian-based China-Eurasia Council for Political and Strategic Research, the event convened 63 distinguished and emerging scholars and experts from 20 countries across Asia and Europe. This gathering powerfully underscored the Eurasian continent’s growing centrality as a pivotal space in the evolving Multipolar World Order 2.0.
Dr. Mher D. Sahakyan, the conference founder, inaugurated the proceedings by welcoming attendees and announcing a series of strategically significant academic initiatives. These included the launch of the Routledge Research in Eurasian Geopolitics Book Series, the establishment of the new Association for Eurasian Continent’s Research, and the forthcoming publication of the landmark volume, Routledge Handbook of China’s Belt and Road Initiative in Eurasia.
The forum was honored to feature a keynote address by Professor Heiwai Tang, Director of the Asia Global Institute and Vice President of the University of Hong Kong, whose participation underscored the conference’s high international stature.
Spanning two days, the conference program engaged with a comprehensive array of critical issues shaping contemporary global affairs. Discussions delved into the structure of the emerging Multipolar World Order 2.0, Eurasian geopolitics and geoeconomics, great power dynamics, and the development of international transportation corridors. Further topics included the strategic positioning of small and medium-sized states, the transformation of regional architectures, digital sovereignty, cyberspace governance, and the future of cross-border infrastructure and energy security.
Having evolved into a robust and sustainable platform for academic dialogue and scholarly diplomacy, this conference series continues to produce tangible scholarly outputs. Insights from previous forums have already materialized in several influential Routledge publications, including the foundational volumes Routledge Handbook of Chinese and Eurasian International Relations and China and Eurasian Powers in a Multipolar World Order 2.0.
The success of the sixth edition has firmly reaffirmed Yerevan’s status as a leading intellectual hub for global Eurasian studies, fostering essential reflection on the profound transformations reshaping our world.
