The Armenian Student Earns Third Place at Prestigious Guangxi Folk Song Competition in China
On November 6th, 2025, the Guangxi University of Finance and Economics hosted the annual Guangxi International Students Chinese Folk Song Competition, an event organized by the Guangxi Association for International Education. Among 30 talented participants from across the globe, one performer stood out not only for her vocal abilities but for the cultural story she embodied: Amalya Poghosyan, an Armenian student known by her Chinese name, 艾美.
Amalya achieved a remarkable milestone at the event, securing the Third Place Award. Yet, for her, the victory extended far beyond the accolade. As the first Armenian student to participate in this regional celebration of music, she carried with her a profound sense of pride and responsibility. Through her performance, she introduced the audience to the rich and often unfamiliar sounds of Armenian culture, offering a musical glimpse into a heritage that resonated deeply with listeners.
A striking part of her presentation was her traditional Armenian attire (taraz), which was provided by ChinArmArt. The vibrant colors and intricate design of the taraz captivated the audience, sparking curiosity and conversation about Armenia’s artistic traditions, landscapes, and musical legacy. For Amalya, wearing the taraz was more than a stylistic choice—it was a heartfelt connection to her homeland, a visual representation of the culture she shared through song.
