The Gurdjieff Ensemble of Armenia touring major cities in China
The Gurdjieff Ensemble of Armenia is excited to announce their upcoming concert tour throughout China! This debut tour will take place in October 2023 in Shanghai, Jinan, Shenzhen, and Wuhan. The program for the concerts will feature the best selections from ECM albums, showcasing the beautiful music of Georges I. Gurdjieff and Komitas.
Leading the ensemble is the talented Armenian musician Levon Eskenian, who founded the Gurdjieff Folk Instruments Ensemble back in 2008. The ensemble is made up of some of Armenia’s most skilled traditional music practitioners, who perform on a range of instruments such as the Duduk, Blul, Kamancha, Oud, Kanōn, Santur, Tar/Saz, Dap/Daf, Dhol, and Tombak.
It’s worth noting that the Gurdjieff Ensemble has received numerous awards for its work, including the Dutch Edison Award for Best World Music Album in 2012 and the Armenian National Music Award for Best Folk Music Album in 2011. The ensemble’s album “Music of Georges I. Gurdjieff,” produced by ECM Records, was especially well-received.
This is a tour not to be missed by anyone who loves traditional music, so be sure to mark your calendar for October 2023 and catch the Gurdjieff Ensemble in action!
