Armenian performing arts and traditional garments represented in Foshan, China

Armenian culture, performing arts, and century-old traditions have recently been represented to the Chinese audience in Foshan city, Guangdong Province. Svetlana Hovhannisyan, the Armenian teacher of Flowery Country Garden kindergarten, conducted a series of cultural and interactive events, introducing traditional Armenian garments and providing an opportunity for the Chinese students to wear Armenian national costume details and get acquainted with Armenian culture. In addition, her students performed traditional Armenian dances for the visitors.

It’s worth mentioning that the traditional Armenian garments or national costumes (taraz) have always played a significant role in the perception and expression of the Armenian identity. Armenian students and teachers actively participate in international festivals and cultural activities across China. While living, learning, and working in China, they represent traditional wear by attending numerous performances and contests. The Chinese audience is very enthusiastic about encountering Armenian culture and countless times expressed curiosity regarding particularly national costume details, silverware accessories, embroidered pieces, and handicrafts- the exquisite works of Armenian craftsmen, artists, and artisans worldwide.
